South Korea Local Caller ID Regulations

In April 2015 the South Korean Ministry of Government Legislation announce an amendment to the Telecommunications Business Act. This amendment stipulates that companies, specifically telecommunications carriers will have to secure their system against the manipulation of caller ID numbers and block a number that they discover has been used misleadingly.  From a government regulatory perspective, the amendment also now expressly enables the Ministry of Sciences to order operations to stop servicing telephone numbers found to have been used for fraudulent activities or illegal gains. It is therefore imperative businesses with operations within South Korea should ensure that they have adequate anti-spoofing safeguards in place.
