SIP Trunking lets you connect your own phone system to AVOXI for outbound calling. If you can't create or configure one, it's usually one of a few common causes below.
Common Reasons This Happens
- Wrong section of the platform. SIP Trunks are configured under SIP Integrations in the left-hand navigation of AVOXI Genius, not under Numbers. Make sure you're on the "SIP Trunks" tab, next to “SIP URIs.”
- Your role doesn't have access. By default, only Administrators and Supervisors can configure SIP Trunks. If you're logged in as an Agent, you won't see the option.
- SIP Trunking isn't included on your plan. SIP Trunking is billed as its own monthly subscription, separate from your number plan. If it isn't active on your account, reach out to your Account Manager or Support for assistance to add it.
- Trunk name uses unsupported characters. Trunk names can only use letters, spaces, and numbers.
- Mismatched authentication. If you're using one trunk for both inbound and outbound calls, the username and password on your SIP URI and your SIP Trunk must match exactly, or you'll run into authentication errors.
- A required field is blank on your own PBX. If you're configuring the trunk on your own system (3CX, FreePBX, etc.), some of those systems won't let you save a trunk with certain fields empty, even if you don't need them. For example, 3CX requires a "Main Trunk Number" — use any AVOXI DID or a placeholder value if you're only receiving inbound calls.
